***The changes to the Town of Perinton Recycling Program pertain to residents in the Town of Perinton outside of the Village of Fairport.

Curbside Recycling FAQs

Starting July 1, 2022, recycling will be picked up by your private garbage hauler if you live in the Town of Perinton, outside of the Village of Fairport. Please reach out to your hauler with any questions.

Your private trash hauler may provide you with a new recycling bin/toter, or allow you to use your existing bin/toter. Please contact your hauler with specific questions about bin/toter use. Many garbage haulers offer customizable garbage and recycling toter sizes and services.

If you no longer want or need your Waste Management recycling bin, it can be recycled curbside, or recycled for free at the Residential Drop Off Facility located at High Acres Landfill. For hours and information, please visit their website. A permit is required to use the facility, and can be obtained for free at the Perinton Town Clerk’s Office. Some haulers may allow you to use your existing bin/toter – please contact your private trash hauler.

Waste Management will continue to collect your curbside recycling. As of July 1, 2022, Waste Management recycling bins will be available at Fairport Village Hall, 31 S Main St.

Many garbage haulers offer customizable recycling toter sizes and services. Please contact your garbage hauler to determine what is available to you.

Haulers are responsible for providing recycling bins/toters. Therefore, Town Hall will no longer stock Waste Management recycling bins. Please reach out to your garbage hauler for a new bin or recycling toter.

Currently, Perinton residents can choose from six (6) separate haulers* that serve our community, ensuring competitive pricing and service options.

Please contact your garbage hauler for all recycling options available to you.

Perinton residents may recycle free of charge at the Residential Drop-Off Center located at High Acres Landfill. Residents can obtain a vehicle landfill sticker in the Town Clerk’s Office at Perinton Town Hall. For more information on the Residential Drop-Off Center click here, or call (585) 421-6214.

Town residents who choose not to hire a private garbage hauler can still take their garbage and recycling to the Residential Drop-Off Center located at High Acres Landfill. Perinton residents pay a discounted rate for garbage disposal, and recycling drop-off remains free of charge. Residents can obtain a vehicle landfill sticker in the Town Clerk’s Office at Perinton Town Hall. For more information, click here, or call (585) 421-6214.

Many garbage haulers already include recycling collection in their standard monthly service fees and offer customizable garbage and recycling toter sizes and services, including garage-side collection in addition to the traditional curbside collection. Residents can now decide which services best meet their individual needs. Please also note that if your hauler increases your rates, you may consider calling other haulers to compare rates. Visit our website for a list of local haulers and their contact information.

Residents do not pay for recycling through their Town tax bill. Since 1991, state, county and local town laws have required garbage haulers to collect both garbage and recycling from their customers throughout Monroe County. However, Perinton has been unique because we’ve had Waste Management exclusively collect all residential recycling in the Town since before these laws were in place. Recycling was never a tax-based service but provided to residents as a benefit for hosting the High Acres Landfill for the past fifty years.

In the latest High Acres Landfill Host Community Agreement, recycling collection was made consistent with current laws and surrounding communities. This allows residents to choose which services best meet their needs (i.e., service options, recycling toters, frequency of pick-ups and overall cost).

Yes.  In 2014, the Monroe County Recycling Center started to accept Mixed Recycling materials from its recycling collector customers. Mixed Recycling means that paper materials no longer need to be separated from containers–they can all be mixed together. As a result of this upgrade, recyclables are no longer required to be sorted curbside.

Please note that some haulers use separate garbage and recycling trucks, while others utilize a split body truck which allows for both garbage and recycling to be collected in one truck.

Private garbage haulers will continue to provide their individual service for garbage, and now recycling, on the same day as your current collection. Please note that some haulers will offer biweekly curbside recycling; contact your hauler for the schedule.
