Mobile Mammography Center Coming to Perinton
Free Mammography services will be made available by appointment or walk-in.
Perinton Town Clerk Janelle Reed announced the Rochester Regional Health Mobile Mammography Center is coming to the Town of Perinton on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be located at the Perinton Community Center North Parking Lot, 1350 Turk Hill Road, Fairport, NY 14450. Appointments are encouraged; however, walk-ins are welcome. To schedule an appointment, call 585-922-PINK, or visit www.RochesterRegional.org/PINK.
“A 15-minute breast cancer screening could save your life, but it can be hard to make time with work, family, and other commitments,” said Town Clerk Janelle Reed. “That’s why the Perinton Town Clerk’s Office has partnered with Rochester Regional Health to bring the screening to you. It’s covered by most insurance providers, and New York State may be able to provide assistance to those without insurance.”
Preventive screenings are covered under most insurance plans. In addition, the NYS Cancer Services Program offers free breast cancer screening and diagnostic services to residents without insurance. Reed hopes this service will provide easy access to mammograms for women in the community who otherwise might not get them due to barriers such as transportation, scheduling, and financial burdens.
The Rochester Regional Health Mobile Mammography Center offers state-of-the-art technology, expert staff on-site, and a comfortable environment with two private dressing rooms. Mammography results are evaluated by a board-certified Breast Imaging Radiologist and are typically available to the patient’s doctor the next day. In addition, results are mailed directly to the patient.
To qualify, women must be at least 40 years old and not pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients should plan to bring insurance cards and photo ID. On the day of the exam, you are asked to refrain from applying deodorant, antiperspirant, powders, lotions, creams, or perfumes under your arms.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), one in every eight women will get breast cancer in their lifetime, and mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat. Rochester Regional Health deploys its mobile mammography unit to make it more convenient for women to get potentially life-saving screenings.
Free Fall Shredding Event
The Town Clerk’s Office hosted the Town’s first free shredding event for Perinton residents in the fall. The event is set to return in 2023.
“I often hear from community members about the importance of having a secure way to dispose of sensitive and confidential documents,” said Town Clerk Janelle Reed.“By offering a free shredding event, my office is hoping to bring this service closer to home in a secure way. Our Town Clerk’s Office is always here to assist you – please stop by or contact us if we can be of service.”
