An Update from Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna on the Pines of Perinton Fire

January 26, 2022

“A tragic day in our community, many of our neighbors have lost their homes due to the devastating fire at the Pines of Perinton. Around 70 people were transported to the Perinton Community Center where the Red Cross, Town, and Fairport School District addressed immediate needs and completed assessments. In partnership with Monroe County Human Services and the Red Cross, everyone was placed in temporary housing by the evening hours.

I would like to thank the first responders who arrived quickly and battled the several-alarm fire into the early morning hours. I am grateful to all of the police, fire, and EMS who assisted these residents and whose coordinated efforts resulted in safe outcomes.

A day of devastation, it was also a day of incredible acts of care and kindness. So many people reached out and showed up to support these neighbors in need. From food deliveries by Wegmans, Mark’s Pizzeria, Salvatore’s, Chipotle, Dunkin Donuts, McArdle’s, Mulconry’s, and more, to the Fairport Library helping entertain the children, and Fairport Baptist Homes organizing items of immediate need – this community showed up in a big way. Superintendent Brett Provenzano and Fairport School District staff were also on-site all day assisting in any way possible. I also want to thank all of the Town employees who jumped into action; our recreation staff did everything possible to make families feel comfortable and cared for.

I’ve been coordinating with countless individuals, organizations, churches, and businesses who have offered assistance to these families. The Town has been working with the Red Cross to address the immediate needs of those impacted, and we will continue a coordinated effort with our community partners to communicate any specific donations needed in the future. The outpouring of support has been tremendous and it will play a significant role in getting families back on their feet.

In the meantime, the Town has established a Pines of Perinton Fund for community donations. We are accepting donations by cash or check and dispersing funds to those impacted by the fire. We will be working directly with these individuals and getting them the assistance they need.

We are a community that bands together in times of tragedy, and I know we will do this once again.”
