With the Finger Lakes Regions transitioning into Phase III of reopening New York, “low risk” youth sports will officially be allowed back on fields in Perinton July 6.

These sports include: baseball, softball, gymnastics, field hockey, crew and cross country. No organized adult sports have been approved as of yet.

Social distancing guidelines will apply, including non-participants wearing masks if they can’t remain 6 feet apart and each athlete is allowed no more than two spectators at each event.

The Recreation and Parks Department is taking reservations now for facilities opening July 6. You can go to our website: or call (585) 223-5050.

CDC Guidelines for youth sports include:

  • Intensify cleaning and disinfection: Wipe down team bench and shared equipment. Keep hand sanitizer available at all times.
  • Reduce physical closeness: Keep children 6 feet apart whenever possible. Discourage physical contact celebrations such as high fives, hand shaking and hugs.
  • Promote healthy hygiene practices: Wash hands before and after practice, encourage athletes to cough or sneeze into their elbow and remind them not to spit sunflower seeds.
  • Set example by wearing a mask: Ask players, officials, parents and spectators to wear a cloth face covering during games and practices.
  • Bring your own water containers – do not share!
  • Only 2 spectators per participant.

The Town of Perinton is excited about young athletes being able to get back on our fields and courts, but we also ask that everyone continue to do what we have done so well the past few months – stay safe and be considerate of others.
