Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna today announced the Town of Perinton, in partnership with Monroe County and Fairport Animal Hospital, will hold a free rabies immunization clinic on Saturday, June 12, 2021, by online appointment only from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The drive-thru clinic will take place at the Perinton Department of Public Works, 100 Cobb’s Lane, Fairport, NY 14450. Town of Perinton and Village of Fairport dog owners will also be able to renew or apply for a dog license, as required by New York State Law.

“The Town of Perinton is making it easier than ever to immunize your pet – from the ease of booking an online appointment to the convenience of a drive-thru clinic – we hope you will take advantage of this event and help protect your dog or cat,” said Hanna. “Special thanks to our partner Fairport Animal Hospital for administering these life-saving vaccinations.”

Both dogs and cats can be immunized at the clinic but must be at least three months old. To book an appointment, visit the Town’s online scheduling portal.

Those attending the clinic should plan to arrive at their scheduled time and remain in their vehicle until asked to exit with the animal. Dogs must be leashed, and cats must be in a sturdy pet carrier upon arrival. A copy of a prior rabies vaccination record is required to receive a 3-year rabies vaccination. Without records, a one-year initial vaccination will be provided. All shots are provided at no charge.

Rabies is a viral infection that is fatal once symptoms develop.  Although a bite most often transmits the disease, it can also be spread if saliva from a rabid animal comes in contact with the mouth, nose, eyes, or an open wound on the body. Health officials strongly recommend pet vaccination as it provides a barrier to prevent the transmission of rabies from a pet that has come in contact with a rabid animal to a person that subsequently touches the exposed pet.

The Office of Town Clerk Jennifer A. West will also be present at the Rabies Immunization Clinic to help Perinton and Fairport dog-owners obtain a dog license.

“All dog-owners in the Town of Perinton and Village of Fairport are required by law to obtain a dog license from the Town Clerk’s Office,” said West. “By licensing your dog with the Town, we are able to help identify and protect your dog if it becomes lost. Licensing helps shelters detect missing pets and helps our Animal Control Officer reunite families with their pet when a dog is found. Licensing also ensures that a dog has an up-to-date rabies vaccine.”

New York State Law requires every dog over four months of age to be licensed annually by the local municipality in which they reside.  The Town of Perinton issues dog licenses for residents in the Town of Perinton and the Village of Fairport, in accordance with Chapter 78 of the Town Code. Once a dog is licensed, the Town Clerk’s Office will mail renewal notices each year, which can be completed online (with up-to-date rabies) at www.perinton.org , by mail, or in person.

Dog License Fees:

  • Un-neutered or un-spayed dog: $20
  • Spayed/neutered dog: $10
