Hike or Bike the RS&E Trail this Fall

October 20, 2022

As the weather gets colder and wetter, many of the Crescent Trails become an adventure for hikers. During muddy and icy conditions, the Town of Perinton would like to suggest the RS&E Trail.

This nearly 5-mile trail – officially known as the Rochester, Syracuse and Eastern Trail – stretches from Pannell Road to the Erie Canal in Fairport. Sometimes known as the Trolley Trail, the trail even has a state-of-the-art road crossing at busy Route 31.

The Trail, which is crushed limestone for the whole length, is a great alternative on tricky weather days. You don’t have to walk or bike the entire trail as trailheads with parking are provided at Pannell Road, Victor Road and Hogan Road.

RS&E connects many of the Crescent Trails in Town and the pedestrian/bicycle bridge over the Erie Canal connects the RS&E to the Erie Canal Heritage Trails.

The relatively flat trail allows for all skill levels of walking, biking, running and even cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The trail is also accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

If you want to get out in the Fall or Winter, the RS&E trail may fit your needs. For more details on the trail, visit the Hiking Project.
