First Municipal RC Raceway in Monroe County; New Recreation Opportunity for all Ages and Abilities

Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna, Town Board members David Belaskas, Seana Sartori, Meredith Stockman-Broadbent and Alexandra Winner,Town Clerk Jennifer West, along with Recreation and Parks Commissioner Jeff Myers, Parks Director Stacey Piddisi, andPerinton Recreation and Parks staff, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to open the T.O.P. RC Raceway. Established at Park Operations, 50 Cobb’s Lane (14450), the outdoor raceway is now available by reservation or open for public use when unreserved. The T.O.P. RC Raceway is an inclusive recreation opportunity for all ages and abilities.

We are thrilled to cut the ribbon on the first municipal RC Raceway in Monroe County and the first local outdoor track available for public use,” said Hanna. “This is a fantastic new opportunity for kids and family members of all ages and abilities to spend time together. We invite all RC racers to enjoy the thrill, whether you are a beginner or an enthusiast. Thank you to the creative and hardworking staff of the Perinton Recreation and Parks Department for not only coming up with the idea, but making it happen!”

The idea for the T.O.P. RC Raceway was generated from an internal Town Recreation “Shark Tank” competition, where Parks Foreman Dillon Dayton and Parks Laborer Roger Johnston pitched the idea of an outdoor Radio Controlled (RC) Car Raceway. The Perinton Parks Department saved considerable project costs by designing and building the raceway themselves while utilizing recycled materials. Perinton’s new raceway is the first municipal RC Track in Monroe County and the first local outdoor track established for public use.

The facility is open daily from 8 am – 10 pm, and is available for rent or open for public use. Reservations can be made by filling out the park reservation form found here perinton.org/departments/randp/parks-department/park-reservation/t-o-p-rc-raceway, and emailing it to spiddisi@perinton.org, or mailing it to Perinton Community Center, 1350 Turk Hill Road, Fairport, NY 14450. For reservation information call (585) 223-5050.

Spectator bleachers are in place, and Fairport Municipal Commission installed an overhead light for evening racing. RC Racers can help maintain the course by raking and picking up litter.

Further sponsorship opportunities are available to support the installation of inclusive ramps and viewing decks. Those interested can contact Stacey Piddisi, Parks Director, at spiddisi@perinton.org.
