Town of Perinton cuts ribbon on new pickleball courts

August 18, 2022

Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna, the Town Board and members of the Rec & Parks Department cut the ribbon Wednesday to officially open the pickleball courts at Fellows Road Park.

“Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the nation and one of the most popular activities in the Perinton Community Center,” said Hanna. “Our community is known for our outstanding recreation opportunities, and we are proud to add outdoor pickleball courts to the list. I thank our Recreation & Parks team for their dedication to promoting quality facilities and programs for residents of all ages and abilities.”

The project reconfigured two tennis courts at Fellows Road Park into six new pickleball courts. It also resurfaced two existing tennis courts as well as a practice court located in the same area. The Town worked with contractors to install new nets, reline the courts, and install all new fencing.

A hybrid of badminton, ping pong and tennis, pickleball was named the country’s fastest-growing sport for the second year in a row by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association. Pickleball has 48.8 million players nationwide, an increase of nearly 40% over two years ago, the group also found.
