SUPERVISOR HANNA INTRODUCES LOCAL LAW TO PROVIDE A PROPERTY TAX BREAK TO VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS AND AMBULANCE WORKERS

January 5, 2022

Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna today announced that the Perinton Town Board unanimously voted to introduce a local law that would provide a 10% real property tax exemption to volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers in the Town of Perinton.

Perinton residents rely on five volunteer fire departments and one ambulance service to respond to emergencies within Town boundaries. These departments serve a vital need in our community and are largely staffed by unpaid volunteers.

“We owe our volunteer fire and ambulance workers a debt of gratitude, and this is one way we can show our appreciation for their service to our community,” said Hanna. “Thank you to our state and county partners in government for moving this important initiative forward. We hope this tax break will not only provide assistance to those volunteers who do so much for our community, but also aid in the recruitment efforts for our volunteer agencies.”

The exemption would amount to 10% of a house’s assessed value and be available to fire and ambulance volunteers who have served a department for at least two years.

Update: To receive the exemption for the 2022 tax year, those eligible must apply by March 1, 2022. The application can be found here: www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/current_forms/orpts/rp466k_fill_in.pdf?fbclid=IwAR38fp-aUgULPl5ce1FWTN5C6IP2BFWvf_GienW4QDgxGkOMw8LTTUCugpc. Anyone who has not already submitted an application should return one to the Town Assessment Office in Town Hall.
