Renovated Two-Level Venue Now Available for Private Events, Blending Modern Amenities with the Historic Charm of Potter Park.
Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna today announced the launch of a new building rental opportunity at the Lion’s Den, a unique venue located in Potter Park in the Village of Fairport. Previously serving as a Teen Center, the Lion’s Den is now available for private rentals through the Perinton Recreation and Parks Department. Featuring a spacious layout, modern amenities, and historic charm, the venue offers an ideal setting for a wide variety of gatherings, from meetings and celebrations to small events.
“Opening the Lion’s Den for rentals allows us to bring a wonderful community resource to a wider audience,” said Supervisor Hanna. “This building has a rich history, and with recent improvements, it is now an even more welcoming and functional venue. Whether for celebrations, meetings, or small gatherings, the Lion’s Den is a valuable addition to our town’s recreational offerings.”
Located at 53 West Church Street in Fairport, the Lion’s Den provides more than 4,800 square feet of event space across two levels, each approximately 60×40 feet. The venue comfortably accommodates up to 40 guests and is available for private rentals Friday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, though it will not be available on Fridays during summer camp weeks. The cost to rent the space is $189 per day for Perinton residents and $210 per day for non-residents, with reservations now open.
The building has undergone a series of upgrades to enhance its functionality while preserving its character. A newly renovated kitchen, complete with a refrigerator, oven, and microwave, makes food preparation convenient for events. Sound improvements have been made to improve acoustics, and the space now features WiFi, fresh paint and trim, and updated flooring. Guests will also have access to tables and chairs for up to 40 people, comfortable lounge seating with sofas, and entertainment options such as air hockey, pool, and foosball tables. The building is climate-controlled with both heating and air conditioning and includes private restrooms for guest use.
First opened in 1990, the Lion’s Den was made possible by the Fairport Lions Club, which raised over $175,000 in local funding and grants to bring the project to life. The building, located behind the historic Potter Mansion, was a joint initiative supported by the Town of Perinton. The space originally served as a dedicated Teen Center, providing local youth with a safe and engaging environment. Teen activities previously held at the Lion’s Den have been relocated to the Perinton Community Center (PCC), where expanded opportunities continue to serve young residents.
Potter Park, owned by the Village of Fairport and operated by the Town of Perinton through a lease agreement, is a popular community park with easy access for residents. In addition to the Lion’s Den, the park features a thriving Community Garden, updated playgrounds, basketball and pickleball courts, and athletic fields.
Reservations for the Lion’s Den opened on February 4, 2025, and can be made online. For more information or to inquire about availability, visit our website or contact the Perinton Recreation and Parks Department at 585-223-5050.
