First Responder Spotlight: Adrian Luh, A Dedicated Volunteer Firefighter Making a Difference in Perinton

September 14, 2023

Here in the Town of Perinton, individuals like Adrian Luh stand out as shining examples of community service. Adrian, an 8-year volunteer firefighter with the Egypt Fire Department, didn’t initially plan on becoming a firefighter, but his commitment to giving back to the community has made a significant impact.

By day, Adrian serves as a Product Marketing Manager for Pharos, a software company based in West Henrietta. He moved to Fairport in 2007 after completing his Master’s degree at Purdue University. His journey into the world of firefighting began in 2015 while working at L3Harris. Adrian had the opportunity to spend several days with first responders, witnessing their dedication to their community. This experience inspired him to explore the possibility of becoming a volunteer firefighter, seeking guidance from his neighbor, Past-Chief Dale Olson, to learn more about the Egypt Fire Department.

For Adrian, volunteering as a firefighter is a great outlet to give back. He shared, “It’s a really good feeling knowing that you were able to make an impact and help someone when they need it. I have also met a lot of great people and built some really good friendships along the way.”

Adrian’s dedication to firefighting extends beyond his personal fulfillment; he sees it as an opportunity to be a positive role model for his two teenage daughters, teaching them the importance of giving back to their community.

His commitment to the Egypt Fire Department means that Adrian spends an average of 4-5 volunteer hours per week. Adrian encourages anyone interested in becoming a firefighter not to let inexperience deter them. He emphasizes that most volunteer firefighters had zero firefighting experience before joining, and the necessary training and support are readily available. He noted, “Don’t let inexperience stop you. It will take commitment and hard work on your part, but it is such a rewarding experience.”

For those inspired by Adrian’s commitment, the Town of Perinton’s five volunteer fire departments eagerly welcome new members. To join you can contact them directly: https://perinton.org/residents/emergency-services/
