Marriage License

The process of obtaining a marriage license in the Town Clerk’s office takes about 15 minutes.  An appointment is necessary.  The cost is $40 (cash, check payable to Town of Perinton, or credit card with processing fee). We are open for licensing, by appointment, Monday – Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (except holidays).

Couples wishing to obtain a marriage license may do so up to 60 days in advance of their wedding date; it must be obtained at least 24 hours before the wedding. Both parties must sign in person before the clerk.

A person is required to establish proof of age & identity by submitting to the issuing clerk one of the following original age related documents (must be in English; if not, please provide a certified translation):

  1. Birth Certificate
  2. Baptismal Record
  3. Naturalization Record
  4. Census Record

AND one of the following identity-related documents:

  1. Driver’s license
  2. Passport
  3. Employment picture ID
  4. Immigration Record

For all previous marriages, the applicant must provide a copy of the final divorce decree showing that the divorce has been filed (usually a stamp on the first or last page which says “Filed” and the date). If a marriage ended due to spousal death, a death certificate must be provided.

Both middle name & surname (last name) to be used after marriage are required for the marriage license application.  Please be prepared to provide this information at your appointment.  Also, please be aware that a marriage license cannot be modified or changed after it is issued.
