Happy Spring, everyone!
While we have not seen our usual snow totals, Perinton Public Works crews have been busy handling the challenging mixture of snow, ice, sleet, and freezing rain this winter. This has resulted in fallen trees and limbs and a significant clean-up effort to keep our roadways and sidewalks safe and clear. Please remember, if you see plows, equipment, or staff members on the road, give them plenty of space to work. A big thank you to our dedicated snow and ice crews, who always stand ready to deal with whatever Mother Nature sends our way. Once the winter weather clears, Public Works will transition back into spring/summer work like road, sidewalk, sewer, and drainage maintenance projects, along with our ongoing collection program.
As we enter this busy spring season, we are thrilled to welcome back two annual events, our Waste Recycling and Shredding Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2023, and our Free Rabies Immunization Clinic, scheduled for Saturday, June 17, 2023. Our monthly electronics recycling program will also restart in April. Please check our website for more information on these events.
If you are looking for a way to stay informed about important events, information, and Town news, I encourage you to sign up for our new e-Newsletter. With the decline in newspapers and a growing information gap, we are addressing this issue by establishing a new e-Newsletter. You will receive important news and information about the Perinton community, including events, announcements, ongoing issues, and updates that matter to our residents. This information will be delivered to your email on a monthly basis – sign up by visiting www.perinton.org/newsletters. The monthly e-Newsletter will not be replacing the quarterly Town News in the Rec & Parks Program Brochure, but will supplement the information already provided.
Looking forward to this year, we have two significant Town projects in the works – the Perinton Skatepark at Perinton Park and a permanent memorial for RPD Officer Tony Mazurkiewicz. We’ve created a committee to determine how our community will honor Tony’s life, legacy, and service. He was a long-time resident, and his wife, Lynn, works in our Parks Department. While we are still early in the process, we look forward to creating a memorial that will honor Tony and recognize the service and sacrifice of all law enforcement officers.
Our Perinton Skatepark project is well underway. At this time, we are finalizing the design and will soon begin site work. The skatepark has many supporters who have been integral to the project’s progress, from local businesses, organizations, and residents to elected officials and local law enforcement. Studies have shown that a well-built and properly sited skatepark can be a hive of creativity, physical activity, and a place where kids and adults who enjoy all forms of wheeled sports can gather in a positive and safe environment. The skatepark will also provide economic benefits for our community due to the significant tourism draw. We look forward to moving this project along and hope to have families using the Perinton Skatepark by the end of the year.
